Who We Are


REV. BECKY ALBRITTON, MDiv, is a Baptist minister who has worked on a church staff and as a pastoral counselor prior to moving to Northern Virginia in the summer of 2006. She attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and is certified as a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. Becky works with individuals, couples, and families to facilitate healing and wholeness around a variety of issues. She also enjoys leading groups and retreats. Redemption and reconciliation are important themes that she touches on in her work with persons. Becky works at the Manassas, Springfield and Vienna offices. REV. GLYNN R. FORD, PhD has been a pastoral counselor in Northern Virginia since 1970. Glynn received his PhD from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and has extensive training in working with men's issues, grief and loss, and couple's issues. Glynn leads seminars in the Thomas Concept and has led the Grief Recovery Workshop since 1973. He is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Virginia, a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and an Advanced Clinician in the Association for Imago Relationship Therapy. JUDY HALL, MSW, LCSW, is a former social worker and social work supervisor in Fairfax County School System's special education programs. In addition to completing her Master's degree in social work at Catholic University of America and a certification program in pastoral psychotherapy at Pastoral Counseling and Consultation Centers of Greater Washington, she has extensive specialized training in marital, family, and child therapy. She is currently a student at Wesley Theological Seminary. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Virginia, Judy is experienced in working with individuals, couples, families and children. Her work with people is grounded in her respect for the resilience and the strengths that individuals and families bring to the process of change and reconciliation. REV. GARY L. HULME, DMin is a United Methodist minister and a long time resident of Manassas. Gary holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy from Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk Virginia, as well as a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He is also a graduate of the Institute for Pastoral Psychotherapy. In addition to being certified as a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, Gary is also a Board Certified Professional Counselor by the American Board of Professional Counselors established by the American Psychotherapy Association. He is also a provider with CHAMPUS/Tricare/Healthnet, the insurance provider for military dependents. He likes to work with a variety of persons and provides individual counseling and psychotherapy, marriage counseling, couples counseling, family counseling and adolescent counseling. In addition to anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, grief, abuse survivors and other mental health issues, Gary likes to work with persons around how family of origin issues impact current life systems in a way that moves toward healing, wholeness and health. ANNE MARTIN, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and an Episcopalian. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Rice University in Houston Texas, and her post-doctoral retraining in clinical psychology from George Washington University. Anne works mainly with adult individuals and groups, and has extensive experience working with people suffering from depression (unipolar and bipolar) and anxiety (including post-traumatic stress), along with addictions and chronic illnesses such as diabetes and HIV. She serves on the Diocese of Virginia Commission for the Prevention of Sexual Misconduct, and co-facilitates workshops on preventing child sexual abuse and adult sexual misconduct. REV. CARL RIPLEY, M.Div., M.S., C.A.S., L.P.C., is a former teacher and coach, long time United Methodist minister, spiritual director, and pastoral counselor. Carl earned his Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C., his Master of Science, and Certificate of Advanced Studies in Pastoral Counseling and Psychology from Loyola of Maryland. He did his clinical intern and residency work at the Springfield Site of Fairfax County's Outpatient Mental Health Services and The St. Charles Borremeo Pastoral Counseling Services in Arlington, Virginia. In addition to his clinical work Carl has also completed two post-graduate spiritual guidance programs including The Shalem Institute of Spiritual Formation. Carl works with a variety of persons - individuals, couples, families and adolescents over a broad range of issues such as anxiety, panic, depression, addictions, obsessions, compulsions, grief, loss, bereavement, marriage, divorce, guilt, shame, abuse, post traumatic stress, meaning, identity, sexuality, life adjustments and transitions, etc. Along with his skill in both analytical and Jungian orientations to therapy and dream analysis, he employs a wide variety of therapeutic orientations. In the tradition of all wounded healers, he sees the religious task and the healing task as essentially analogous: to help persons become free from the things that inhibit growth and development in order to facilitate the spiritual journey of the soul. REV. JAMES M. TRUXELL, MDiv has been a full time pastoral counselor in Northern Virginia since 1976. A graduate of the College of William and Mary, Wesley Theological Seminary, and the Institute for Pastoral Psychotherapy, he is a United Methodist minister, a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and is a member of the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists. Jim employs a variety of therapeutic methods, suited to the task at hand, and takes seriously the impact of early life experiences, as well as the necessity of making changes in the here and now. He provides individual counseling and psychotherapy, marriage counseling, and couples counseling. He sees persons dealing with a variety of presenting problems including mood disorders, grief, stress, and survivors of abuse. Jim works at our McLean and Fairfax centers. REV. ROBERT D. WHITTEN, Ph.D., has served in Springfield, VA as pastor of a congregation and as pastoral counselor since 1964. He received his formal education at Baylor University (BA cum laude) and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (B.D., Ph.D.) and has done extensive post-doctoral work in family systems and psychotherapy. He works with families, individual and groups, with a specialty in Imago Relationship Therapy for couples. Bob leads seminars on team building and improving relationships using the Thomas Concept, and is a skilled consultant to ministers and congregations in addition to his work as a pastoral counselor.
